Amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual bleeding; there is primary and secondary amenorrhea. Primary amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual bleeding and secondary sexual characteristics like breast development. Secondary amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual bleeding in a woman who had then it later stops for months with no pregnancy.
It is caused by the abnormality in the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, anatomical abnormalities of the general tract, or functional causes (anorexia or chronic disease).The ovarian cause could be an ovulation premature ovarian failure, pituitary causes could be high blood levels of prolactin while hypothalamic causes could be Teratoma(tumor made of mixture of tissues).
