Fibroids are a common occurrence in women and often most of them do not present any symptoms. Fibroids are growths that develop in the uterus and can be either benign or malignant. The size of the growths will vary from person to person with some being as big as a melon while others are just pea sized. Women between the ages of 30 and 40 are the ones who are most likely to get fibroids. The causes of fibroids are not clear but there seems to be a connection between the occurrence of fibroids and high levels of estrogen. This may be the reason why they are rare in menopausal women. Women who weigh more are also more likely to suffer from fibroids.
