Fibroids are growths that develop in the uterus of women. They may be either benign or malignant and do not normally present any symptoms. The sizes of the growths vary from person to person from as big as a melon to a small pea size. Those in their 30s and 40s are more likely to get fibroids. Their cause is not clear but there is some connection between their occurrence and high levels of estrogen. This could be the reason that they are rare in women who are in their menopause. Those who have more weight are also more likely to suffer from fibroids than those who weigh less.
